The Walking Dead

I managed to avoid having to talk to Nick about this new information for the last couple of days. I know that it might sound a bit selfish, but I needed time to process everything and we just hadn’t had a chance to be alone. Tonight we were with Will and Marie, doing a group assignment for science – the only class we all had together.

“I just don’t understand it.” I said in frustration, throwing my hands up. Science has never really come easy to me, it doesn’t flow and my brain can’t comprehend it.

Nick came over and sat next to me, on his big wood dining room table, his parents were out for the night, up in Melbourne looking at some art for their house.  Nick and I put Mickey to bed earlier and was sound asleep in her room, Will and Marie arrived shortly after.

“Here, let me go over it with you.” He sat close to me, closer than to me then he had for a couple of days. I could smell his skin and see the freckles on his face up close and clearly again. I grabbed his hand and kissed him on the cheek, during his explanation. His eyes lit up a bit, but his voice didn’t even break his little teaching session.

Will and Marie had sensed something was up, Marie obviously knew we had been going through a bit of a weird time but they didn’t know why, and Marie didn’t question me too much on our talk in the car. I saw them smiling at each other at my little display of affection.

What he was explaining was starting to make sense, and not for the first time was I thankful for his patience. I asked a few questions, which he answered and we continued on in silence each doing our part for the assignment. We had just about finished the assignment but we were all wearing out fast.

“I think I am done for the night.” Marie said stretching her arms above her head. We all murmured in agreement, Will and Marie started packing up their books.

“Do you want a lift Anna?” Marie asked.

I looked towards Nick, who was watching me closely, I turned to him. “Do you want me to stay?” I asked him softly.

I don’t know why I was so self-conscious, but my heart was beating quickly. “Yeah of course I do Anna.” He said smiling.

The others quickly packed up their stuff, and I took the plates and cups we used to the kitchen sink. Nick went to check on Mickey, who was still sleeping soundly. He walked out of her room and wrapped his arms around me from behind and kissed me on the shoulder, “Bye you two.” Will called out, we walked around the kitchen to see them slipping out the front door, “See you guys.” Nick and I called out in unison.

“So we are finally alone.” Nick said, spinning around to face me, he had a small smile on his lips, it wasn’t a happy smile he was nervous.

“So do you want to finish our talk?” I asked, looking at my feet.

“I suppose we should.” He said. I took a step forward and touched his face, he leant down and kissed
my forehead.

“I want you to know that you can tell me anything…I have absolutely no idea how you might feel about it all…, but I will always listen if you want to talk about Millie and the abortion ok?” I said his eyes were searching my face.

“Ok.” He said giving me a gentle smile.

“But I’m not comfortable with the secret meetings, I get that you will have to see her, help her or whatever, but I’d like to know when you meet up. I get that she’s having a hard time with stuff, but I don’t trust her, I know that makes me sound awful but I can’t help it.”

“I think that is all fair enough. I promise I will keep you in the loop. Anna I am so sorry I didn’t tell you, I just didn’t know what to say…I want you to know you can trust me.” He said sincerely, I leaned in and gave him a big kiss.

“Does this mean we can stop the awkwardness?” He smiled at me, softly putting some hair which had fallen in front of my face behind me ear. I simply kissed him again in response, this time the kiss felt a little different, more urgent and I tugged on his shirt pulling him to his room.

“Anna…” He said between kisses, he was trying to slow me down a bit but was still following my lead, I ignored him.

When we reached his bedroom door, our cheeks were flushed and we were breathing heavily.

“Anna.” He said again, this time moving his mouth towards my ear, “What is about to happen?” He asked, I moved my hands to his chest, I could feel his heart beating furiously.

“What do you want to happen?” I asked him meeting his eyes, for the first time realising that just after we had a fight about something very sensitive trying to have sex with him probably wasn’t the best idea.

“Are you sure you are ready?” He asked, his tone was incredibly gentle.

“Yes. I am positive.” I said meeting his eyes and smiling, he wasted no time in kissing me, he swiftly pulled me into him, pushing the door open to his room. My heart hammering as we he laid me onto the bed. I started running my hands over his chest, and gently started lifting his shirt up. He stopped kissing me and let me slip his shirt off, then he gently started running his hand up top, his fingers were running over my stomach inching up further and further. Nicks lips started running down to my neck, I couldn’t help it a low moan escaped my lips. Nick breath faltered, I pulled back a little and lifted my shift over my head throwing it somewhere into the room. Nick just floated above me, looking down with a look of amazement across his face.

“Stop.” I said not meeting his eyes.

“Stop what?” He said amused, bringing his lips to my collarbone again, before looking at me in the same way again.

“Looking at me like that.” I said, pulling him down to meet my lips.

“Anna, are you sure you are ready for this?” He said breathing on my neck.

“Nick.” I whispered panting. That was it, we both were no longer holding back, we both slipped our jeans off, and he flipped me over so I was sitting on top of him. I leant down kissing down his neck and chest and back up to his neck, tasting every little bead of sweat and knowing I was partially responsible for them made me feel so powerful. He snapped my bra open and just as I was about to pull it off we heard the familiar sound of the front door opening we both flew up off the bed I was scrambling to find my clothes, the room was dark besides the moon that was lighting the room nicely.
Nick had managed to pull on his jeans, I managed to do up my bra and put a top on, and unfortunately it was Nicks.

“Hello.” Lilian, Nicks mum called into the room, the door was wide open.

We both had a deer in headlights expression directed towards the door.

“Oh.” Lillian said, turning around quickly but silently and directing Nick’s dad, Greg away from the door.

I looked straight at Nick who face was flushed and his eyes wide. “Nick.” I whispered, my whole body felt hot from embarrassment.

“Hey, it’s ok. It’s fine.” He said faking calm, he came over and kissed my forehead.

“Maybe you should get dressed, I’m going to go speak to her.” He said with conviction, shutting his bedroom door and flicking his light on as he left.

“Ok...” I said, trying to calm down. I found all of my clothes, run my fingers through my hair and reapplied my lip-gloss. I cracked open the door, and looked down the hallway towards the kitchen, where I assumed they would be. I started walking down there, and the walk felt longer then the school cross country. I started listing the things I would rather be doing the entering the conversation.

1.       Millie and I getting a pedicure together

1.       Me paying for said pedicure

3.       Sitting through a series loop of Joey

There was a lot more, but I had reached my destination. The small square table in the kitchen, where   Lillian was sitting with Nick, who had his face in his hands.

“Hi.” I said, Lillian looked up at me with a small smile. “Sit down girlie.” She motioned for me to sit next to Nick. Nick met my eyes but only to mouth to me, “I am so sorry.”

“We are going to have to have a little chat.” Lillian said.
